Please note the following correction to yesterday’s communication regarding the Sick Occurrence Policy:
A reminder to all staff that the sick occurrence policy was suspended earlier this year due to COVID-19 and will remain suspended through the end of 2020. This means the City is not currently counting each occurrence. The state of the pandemic in Toronto will be an important consideration in deciding when to reinstate the policy.
During collective bargaining, the City gave notice of a policy change to CUPE Local 79 and TCEU Local 416 that the City will begin counting ill dependent days towards sick occurrences. This was not a negotiated term. As was recently communicated to staff, this change in practice will not take effect before January 1, 2021. The exact date this practice change will take effect will depend on when the Sick Occurrence Policy is reinstated.
